Understanding Navagraha Van

Navagraha Van, or the Nine-Planet Forest, is an ancient concept based on Indian astrology. It is believed that certain trees correspond to the nine celestial bodies (Navagrahas), and planting them can bring harmony, health, and prosperity while mitigating planetary imbalances in one’s life. However, beyond astrological significance, these trees play a crucial role in environmental conservation by restoring degraded ecosystems, purifying air, and conserving water resources.

4. Ficus Religiosa (Peepal) – Representing Jupiter (Guru), this oxygen-producing tree holds immense spiritual significance in India.
5. Cynodon Dactylon (Durva Grass) – Associated with Rahu, it plays a vital role in maintaining biodiversity and soil erosion control.
6. Acacia Catechu (Khair) – Symbolizing Sun (Surya), this medicinal tree is known for its use in traditional healing.
7. Calotropis Procera (Madar) – Connected to Moon (Chandra), it is significant in religious rituals and supports pollinators like bees and butterflies.
8. Ficus Glomerata (Gular) – Associated with Venus (Shukra), it provides rich biodiversity and is a natural habitat for birds and insects.
9. Butea Monosperma (Palash) – Corresponding to Mercury (Budh), this vibrant tree is often called the ‘Flame of the Forest’ and supports groundwater conservation.
